The Human System
April 7-April 30, 2016
Opening Reception: Thursday, April 7, 6-9 PM
(NEW YORK, NEW YORK – April 7-30, 2016) Dacia Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent work by Erin Anderson. The Human System will open Thursday, April 7 and remain on view until April 30. A public reception for the artist will be held April 7 from 6-9 PM.
Ms. Anderson is a realist artist whose oils portray the human figure ensconced in biomorphic copper abstractions. Her work explores modern paradigms of human relationships to one another and the environment. Secondary themes in her work explore modern issues of gender and identity.
Using both traditional and contemporary techniques, she has pushed the boundaries of painting and surface. This exhibition showcases fourteen individual portraits painstakingly rendered in oil on copper. Each portrait is seemingly locked within the confines of its own picture plane. Bold expressions of form, referenced from systems in nature, are etched into the background.
Upon first glance, the subjects in her work exist separate from each other, isolated in their environment. When explored further, isolated imagery gives way to a flowing, continuous system acting as a unifying element between each piece.
The juxtaposition of isolation vs. connection examines modern attitudes toward human relationships as well as contemporary perceptions of human vs. environment.
